Wardrobe Must-Have: Jewel Tones

By Elizabeth Hemmerle

Striking blues, deep oranges, and emerald greens. Jewel tones were all over the Fall/Winter 2011 runways.

Designers really took an interest in incorporating the most luscious and  rich colors into this season’s ready-to-wear collections. The gloomy cold weather is quickly approaching us, but by wearing these luxe shades it can help us stay vibrant.

MICHAEL KORS:

This beaming hot head to toe “ruby red” outfit is gorgeous. Every detail from the pants jumper to the chain hand purse is absolute perfection. The key piece to this look is definitely that rocking red fur. Michael proved that fur could be an amazing way to incorporate this trend for fall, and most certainly make you stand out.

GUCCI:

If there is any one collection of the season that truly captured the jewel tone trend, it would be Gucci. Everything Frida Giannini sent down that runway was absolute flawlessness.  However, this flowy sheer cutout dress really captured my eye. Many of you may know this dress from Jennifer Lopez at the Costume Gala at the MET. In my opinion, it looks much more striking in this cerulean blue, and not to mention it is a truly unique shade for the fall months. Whether it be a dress like Gucci, a pair of skinny jeans, or even a simple blue cami, this color is a MUST have. Thank you Gucci for yet another AH-MAZING collection that I absolutely desire to have gently placed into my closet!

Wes Gordon:

This long-sleeved dress by Wes Gordon is such a luxurious shade of gold. Never mind that it’s velvet! This is such a chic dress, and a true eye catcher. The embellished sleeves add another interesting aspect to it. Paired with red lips and simple pumps, this is a perfect go-to look for an evening out. It’s classy, elegant, chic, and velvet. What’s better?

Diane Von Furstenburg: “YSL BLUE”

Now I know I already informed you fashionistas about the subtler teal blue shade of fall, but the daredevil shade is “YSL BLUE.” Diane Von Furstenburg shows this crazy cool color to be daring and sexy. This outfit incorporates a deep blue knee-length dress, hobo bag, pea coat, and even suede boots. The bag is my personal favorite piece.  This look can really prove to us jewel tones can be subtle, but can also allow us to be on fire while sporting sapphire!

Incorporating the trend into your wardrobe can be seamless. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, because it renders to us the coziest clothes! Enjoy a fall day by roaming the city or staying close to home with a golden shade chunky cable knit paired with a pair of cerulean blue jeans. Add some distressed gold jewelry, and a pair of cute leopard booties, oxfords, or even ballet flats. Incorporating jewel tones was never so chic! Here are some key pieces to help you achieve the jewel tone look:

URBAN OUTFITTERS: BDG Cigarette High Rise- Deep Lake; $58.00

These super cute high waisted deep teal blue jeans are a fall must have! I have this pair in red, and I wear them to death because they are so comfortable! This style is available in an array of colors, but to me, this pair is in one of the chicest everyday jewel toned pieces.

FOREVER 21: Mustard Shade Cable Knit Cardigan; $29.90

You are sure to get a ton of use out of this cute cable knit. This is pretty much a “staple” item for fall. It is a neutral shade, which can be paired with both earthy and vibrant tones. Next time I am in F21 I am keeping an eye out for this cozy cardigan!

H&M: Red Fitted Jersey Mini Dress; $14.95

A red mini dress is a down payment on a great night out. You’re sure to turn heads again and again with this smoking hot dress. Not to mention it is an awesome deal! You can dress this up or dress it down, therefore this versatile yet simple piece is a fall must have!
