Victoria Beckham, pop star turned fashion designer, has just launched her newest venture: handbags. Her decision to delve into handbag design is not a surprise, coming from the woman whose collection of Birkin bags is rumored to number over 100. (100!) La Beckham debuts with six bags, all of which reflect the star’s aesthetic – if you’re a fan of her style, then I think you’ll like her handbags. The bags feature clean lines and a tailored look, and are constructed of materials like nubuck, crocodile, and calf leather (in both matte and shiny finishes). While there’s nothing really wrong with any of the pieces, none of them strike me as exceptional either. And for these prices – the styles range from $1,800 – $13,950 – you could get something from a much more established name. Not that any of us can run out to make a purchase anyways, because these bags, which will be available at Bergdorf Goodman, Nieman Marcus, and netaporter.com, have already sold out online. My final verdict? VB’s clothes are much more successful than her handbags, but I’m not writing her off as a handbag designer just yet. She’s been more of a success as a clothing designer than many expected, so I’ll wait to judge whether this talent also extends to accessories.
