Top Looks from the Resort Collections

By Francesca Claybrook

Collette Dinnigan showed some of the most gorgeous dresses in the resort collections this year.  I know I always say I have a hard time picking my favorite, but this time it was close to impossible.  In fact, I just picked one to showcase, because every ten seconds I change my mind about which dress I actually liked best.  The collection is full of corals and pinks, muted grays, and a beautiful cobalt and purple printed fabric.  I loved this particular dress because I like the way the two halves of the dress are distinct, yet go together beautifully.  And now I have to stop, or I’ll keep changing which dress I like best.  Check out the full collection and let me know if you love these dresses as much as I do.

Carolina Herrera also showed a lot of beautiful garments in this resort collection.  I was especially drawn to the longer gowns, which reminded me of Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.  My favorite look of all of them was the first one shown.  I love the combination of pale pink and black (Herrera also showed more pastels in combination with black, like yellow, which was also beautiful).  I especially like the cut of this dress, but I wish we could see the back!  You can see Herrera’s full collection here.

Valentino.  Can you ever really go wrong?  Not really.  This collection was full of leather and lace (used together and separately) and slim flared pants, along with some beautiful dresses.  There was a lot of black and cream, in keeping with some of the major spring trends, as well as some olive and yellow thrown in.  The gowns are gorgeous, but I think my favorite look was this dress.  The black and cream are beautiful together, and the dainty fabric and ruffles keep it ladylike without bulking – and you all know how much I hate bulking!  Take a look at the rest of the clothes here.

Stella McCartney I’m sometimes iffy on – I love her dad, so I figure I should love her too, but it doesn’t always work that way.  This time, though, I did really like her resort collection.  McCartney used a lot of lace in her collection as well, some of it in a beautiful navy that really does make me think resort.  There were also some gorgeous pastel floral prints and rosy nude shades, as well as basic (but not boring) black and white.    Even though I’m not a huge fan of shorts, I really liked this look – especially because each piece could be worn with so many different things as well as together like this.  Make sure you check out the entire collection because it’s beautiful.

Chanel showed a collection that epitomizes what a resort collection should look like – flowing fabrics, pastel colors, and some of everything:  dresses, pants, bathing suits, cover ups…the list goes on!  Because there were so many pieces, most color and fabric trends were covered as well.  Along with the pastel prints, there were also blacks and whites, nudes, bright colors, lace and sequins.  With so many looks to choose from narrowing it down to one was hard, but in the end I realized I kept being drawn to this monochromatic shirt and pants.  It looks light and breezy – definitely something I’d want to wear at a chic resort!  For the entire collection, click here.
