As we head into a new year, it’s appropriate to bid good riddance to some of the most perplexing fashion trends that managed to spread around the globe like a nasty STD. We’re looking at you, overalls. 2014 gets my vote for one of the biggest years in bad trends. You know, the type that in 20 years you will look back on photos and cringe, saying “yep, that was 2014.”
Here are the trends we’re most eager to leave behind as we head into 2015.
1. Ombre Hair: Ladies — why did it become cool in 2014 not to retouch up our roots? This dark hair fades to light hair trend caught on with celebrities, teens and then eventually commoners. The only person who effectively pulled it off in my opinion is hair God, Jared Leto.
2. Overalls: As we head in 2015, let’s leave overalls where they belong — the ’80s. Unless you are a toddler sporting Osh Kosh, there is no good reason for you to be wearing these horribly unflattering onesies. I mean, not even Jessica Alba pictured above could pull off the look.
3. Goth Lipstick: No matter how hard you try, you just aren’t going to make the vamp lip look sexy. Stick to your fire-engine reds and pinks. (Sorry, Spencer Hastings!)
4. Peplum: Here’s an idea, let’s add MORE inches to women’s waists with super unflattering folds of fabric! Really, how did this one catch one. Kim K is a double offender on this list.
5. High-Low: The mullet’s fashion twin, high-low cuts, became a popular look in 2014. The unanswered question is WHY? The skirts have a juvenile look to them, so unless you are 6 years old or trying to coordinate with your mullet, let’s leave these in 2014.
Did I miss any? Let us know.
