As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Australian tour comes to an end, it’s time to take a look at the impact of her fashion choices. The Duchess has been photographed everywhere she goes, every appearance she makes, and has worn many designers from different countries. Many of her looks that she wore have been priced at hundreds and thousands of dollars (one publication put her 17-day clothing tab at more than $50,000!).
While she wore established stalwarts like Stella McCartney on the tour, we love that she also put the spotlight on smaller designers with good missions. Many of these designers she has worn have gotten tons of promotion with Markle being a street wear model for them, and have now translated to sold-out status because of her. When a photo of the new fashion icon is released, publications will link her looks to where the public can buy them, and they sell out within days.
Women admire Markle, having an effect on young women around the world. Outland Denim, an Australian denim designer, made its appearance when Markle wore their Harriet Denim style jeans in black. Markle repeated these jeans in her Australian tour wardrobe, wearing them on Days 2, 6, and 8. These jeans immediately sold out when photos released of the newly pregnant Dutchess. Fifteen to 30 seamstresses in the designer’s Cambodian production house will be hired due to their increase in sales recently.
Markle wore this sophisticated and flattering Karen Gee dress on one of the first days of the tour. This “Blessed dress” is already sold out, and is different from what Markle usually wear, as the designer stated. Karen Gee is a proper Australian brand, and having a British royal raised the bar for the brand in the fashion world. The designer herself said on a talk show that she is not the most known designer or recognized as much, but this appearance sky rocketed her sales.
The Markle effect is still awaiting with some designers worn by the Dutchess, and will continue to have a mark on designers. Predictions are in place of the Club Monaco dress to be sold out in a few days or so, so lets see if the effect is still in act!
