The Best Accessories From the Fashion Weeks

By Francesca Claybrook

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the amazing fashion on the runways that sometimes the accessories get overlooked.   Not this time though – there were too many gorgeous things out there to escape our notice.

Louis Vuitton showed several versions of these shoes, but my favorites are the ones pictured here.  The stacked heel is great, and the little bows up the side are amaaazing.  I like that they’re white, which provides an interesting contrast to the black body of the shoes.

I loved all the shoes at the Emilio Pucci show, so it was hard to choose which ones to put up here. Ultimately though, these ankle boots won out.  I can’t get over the gorgeous burgundy velvet, and ankle boots seemed to say fall to me more than the ankle strap shoes I was considering (which you can see here if you’re curious).

There were several flowing feminine looks at Christian Dior, and one of the things that gave them that extra girly edge were these shoes.  How beautiful are they?

I tend to be semi-practical when it comes to shoes.  I’ll wear a gorgeous pair of heels, but only if I know I’m not going to want to amputate my feet afterwards.  These shoes at Alexander McQueen fall into the category of shoes that I lust after but know that if I were to wear them for more than a few minutes I’d probably be in agony.  Even so, there’s no harm in looking, especially when the shoes look like that.

I couldn’t find a close up of this bag, but at the Miu Miu show Miuccia Prada managed to use fur in two bold and different ways:  the first was as a short sarong, and the second was as a bag.  I am all for this idea, because it uses fur (which will be everywhere next fall) in a unique way – hard to do after so many other designers also went for fur as a staple of their collection.

There were stacked heels again at Fendi, which is good news for those who hate tottering around on a skinny stiletto.  This pair also has an element of masculine tailoring to them, which I like.

Admittedly black and white is my favorite color pairing, but these simple colors are perfect with this shocking pink dress at Balenciaga.  There were several different patterns on the clutches that went down the runway; this was my favorite but there were also some incredible textured bags.

I like the material of this bag at Burberry Prorsum, and the fact that it’s big enough to hold everything you might need.  The shiny leather is beautiful, and the oversized tassels give it a little bit of a manly feel, again tapping into the masculine side of the fall trends.

  1. I agree with you about the way “the Miu Miu show managed to use fur in bold and different ways”. The fur bag was gorgeous and I hope to own my for next fall.
