Wedding season…a time that is normally revolved around stress, planning and organizing, means something completely different when one is a part of the British royal family. Meghan Markle, former sister of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority is now sister-in-law to Kate Middleton, as she is now reigned the new Duchess of Sussex. While the wedding between Markle and Prince Harry was back in May, her dress is still the talk of the town. Markle’s dress, a minimalist Givenchy gown designed by Clare Waight Keller, left people stunned due to its simplicity and unexpected take on a wedding dress. Statement dresses have become popular amongst brides, so this twist Markle decided to take shocked everyone! Nonetheless, no one can deny that the design defines her and what she stands for.
While nothing is confirmed, it is rumored that the dress will be on display at the Windsor Castle. Kensington Palace officials are saying that the boat neck Givenchy gown will be presented where the former actress and Northwestern alum, married Prince Harry. While nothing is set in stone, sources have told The Daily Express that a decision has been made to place the dress on display by the end of the year. *Currently books flight to England*
Keller is the first ever British female designer of the brand and holds the artistic director position. She formerly held the same position for the French brand Chloe and is infamously known for her elegant designs. She studied fashion at the Ravensbourne College of Art and received her masters in fashion knitwear at the Royal College of Art. Before arriving at Givenchy, a few of her other achievements include having worked for Calvin Klein, Tom Ford and Chloe. Amazingly, everything was kept so hush hush that Keller’s own family had no clue she was the designer behind the Duchess’ dress!
The dress itself is elegant and modest, which are two characteristics that Meghan has always carried but really needs to hone in with her new lifestyle. The dress says “Audrey Hepburn”, with the open neckline, six detailed seams and the sculpted waist. The three-quarter sleeves give it a modern twist, and the beautiful long train keep things traditional and interesting.
