Our honeymoon was a 17-day trip to South Africa that blew every trip we’ve taken out of the water. For six days and nights, we were on safari in the Sabi Sands section of South Africa known for its leopards. Safari consists of long days out in the wild in the middle of the desert, so practical clothes are advised. But, it was my honeymoon and I still wanted to look hot. So, I advised some of my chicest girlfriends who recently went on safari to learn what they wore and came up with some safari-appropriate (but cute outfits) to wear. Read on to learn how to look chic on safari, and check out the links at the bottom to get all of our South Africa Travel Guides!
Tops
When it comes to shirts, we sought breathable, linen material in olive shades, tans and whites. This Lulu shirt fits the bill at $46.
Every one of my girlfriends who went on safari strongly advised me to pack a white linen button down. It’s breathable and classic and photographs well tucked into some tan pants with a big brown belt. This Everlane one is $58.
We also love this Forever21 shirt because it encapsulates the trend for a very reasonable price at less than $15. We just ordered it for our upcoming safari in Kruger.
I pretty much lived in this ribbed knit bodysuit from Forever21, $12.90, when we were eon safari. I used it as the first layer of all of my outfits and then when it got warm, I wore it just with pants. I actually paired it with the olive shirt above and then tied it around my waist once it got warm.
Hats
The African sun gets very hot midday, so a hat is key for any safari. So, why can’t it be a cute one? We love this olive green hat from Lulus which has a great shape and will totally fit into the tan, white and olive green palette for a safari. And, it’s only $29.
This tan fedora hat is perfect for a safari getaway. It is $24.
Dresses & Jumpsuits
Layering is essential while on safari. The mornings can start off very cold, but by noon, the sun is blazing. That’s why we love versatile pieces like this dress which can be layered very easily. We also love the price at $19.
We love a good shirt dress, especially on safari because it plays to the nature of safari without seeming costumey. This one is on sale for $49. This will also look great back at the lodge for cocktail hour and dinner.
Pants
These chinos from Old Navy are perfect for safari. The come in Olive and Tan and are fitted and only $25 a pair! True story: I’ve ordered them in both colors and plan on them being a main component of my safari uniform.
Outerwear
I love the cut and functionality of this Orvis Moonlight Pines jacket. The material stretches and blocks wind while pulling your outfit together. It’s $169.
