Last week we looked at bikinis, but even the most daring among us needs something to wear over her suit on the way to and from the beach, right? To me, there are several ways to go with a cover-up: dresses, two piece options like skirts, shorts, and pants, and the “other” category (sarongs, rompers, etc.) I have to be honest with you – looking through all of these choices has made me feel like the cover-up options I have in my closet are pretty limited. I think it’s time to go shopping!
Dresses: These are my personal favorite type of cover-up, because they can usually do double duty as both a cover-up and an actual dress. Strapless dresses like this one from Target have become one of the most popular cover-up styles in recent years. Although the link shows a blue dress, it’s also available in yellow, orange, purple, and green. Be sure to check the prices, because some colors are on sale for $12.58, while others are priced at $17.99. But either way, how great is that deal? Tunics are another good bet. I like this Lauren by Ralph Lauren one at Macy’s, which is on sale for $45.75 – right in our price range! Nordstrom also has great cover-ups like this one for only $38 that comes in tons of beautiful summery colors. The great reviews from other shoppers make it seem even better (I don’t know about you, but when I’m shopping online I often rely on other shoppers’ reviews of an item when I’m trying to decide whether to buy or not.)
Skirts, Shorts, and Pants: First of all, I love this skirt. It looks soft breezy, and paired with a tank like this one it could be either a cover-up option, or a cute casual summer outfit even if you’re not at the beach. Pair it with some gladiator flats and a chunky necklace and you’re good to go! Shorts are also a comfortable and casual cover-up. I like these from Forever 21, with a tank like this paired with it. (And less than $25 for both pieces? Hello! It’s a steal.) I also like loose linen beach pants like these from Victoria’s Secret (I have a similar pair, and let me tell you – it’s like wearing your pajamas. Nothing beats them for comfort.)
Other: This is where we get a little more creative with our cover-ups. I admit I’m not usually into rompers, but this one is adorable. Sarongs are good too, especially because they’re so versatile. They can be a skirt, a dress, or a wrap, depending on your mood! I’d suggest wrapping it like a skirt if you’re wearing a one piece suit (or you love your abs!) and like a strapless dress if you’re in a bikini.
