Sonia Rykiel’s show was full of color and patterns. Plaid played a major role in many of the looks, and there were a number of fur scarves and collars, which are already one of the biggest constants to come out of this season so far. The collection had some interesting and beautiful pieces, but overall I wasn’t as inspired by it as I have been by others this season.
The color combination is beautiful, and we’ve seen shades of this cobalt blue on several other runways. My main problem with this look is the droopy front bow – it makes it look like the model’s boobs are sagging uncontrollably, which is NOT a look most women want.
The use of fur has been prevalent, and several designers have chosen to mix it in with other fabrics in the same piece, like here. The reverse has also been popular – a fur body with sleeves of another material.
I really like the shape and fabrics of this dress, although ideally I could have done with a sleeve color that matched the dress more. What I really don’t like are the shoes – the color really doesn’t do anything for either of the colors in the dress. Instead I think it detracts from them and creates the effect of having too many clashing colors in one look, even though I don’t mind the color combination on the dress when I cover up the model’s feet.
Several combinations of plaid and fur walked down Rykiel’s runway, this among them. The colors and patterns go together pretty well here, which is impressive when you’re combining this number of different plaids and patterns.
