Paris Fashion Week Runway Recap: Balenciaga

By Chevaun Jackson

Though not always perfectly paired Balenciaga gives a lot in his collection which develops from exotic floral patterning to layering of pieces upon other pieces to what appears to be walking art.

Not a huge fan of the collar or shoulder pads on the top but I do like the netting. It gives a nice effect of aesthetic interest. Also, I love the tropical floral pattern. It’s a bit reminiscent of a spring look but all of the florals have vines, which make them a bit more fall-inspired. Also, the colors of spring and fall are usually interchangeable. All the floral dresses are beautiful.

The simplicity of the sweater is appealing. The dark of the upper torso with the fade into the lighter hue and then back to the darker colored skirt gives length as you eye is drawn to both poles of the body. A little surprised Balenciaga stayed neutral in combining the gray with the navy as opposed to another color but the maintenance of traditional fall/winter colors is nice.

Absolutely love the dress. The ruffle that crosses the body keeps the style of ruffles alive and adds layering to the dress at the same time. Also, the traces of beige add intrigue to the piece, giving the eye something to follow. Form fitting pieces are a big part of this collection.

Probably my least favorite, although to be fair I am not a girl for pink, I do like the netting and even the color doesn’t bother me so much but there’s something about this I don’t like as collective. While I love the black border against the bright color and the open sleeves add a unique flare the pieces are fantastic but the whole makes you tilt your head to the side and go, “Okaaay?”

Another favorite.  This is reminiscent of those paintings with a bunch of squares and rectangles (sorry to my fine art aficionados I am not among you). The colors blend well because they are complimentary and each in their own place. There were a lot of lines and symmetrical shapes presented in an asymmetrical way.
