Over time, I’ve become a lot more conscious about what I put on and in my body. That means shopping for organic at the grocery store, and weeding out harmful chemicals in my personal care products. But, finding the right healthy products can be trying, so over the last few months I’ve been testing out healthy personal care products with the hopes of guiding others in the right direction. Here’s a take of our favorites:
Deodorant: Tom’s of Maine
Tom’s deodorant is the gold standard for natural anti-perspirant. When I got it, I was impressed by how amazing it smelled (try the apricot!) and that it is aluminum free. I tested it out during one of NYC’s hottest weekends this summer to really put it to the test. It worked just as well as chemical-laden anti-perspirants and I felt good about using it, which is an added plus. At $5/stick, they cost about the same as mainstream competitors.
Sunscreen: Coola
I take my sunscreen very seriously. It’s the only proven formula to prevent aging. I recently came across COOLA on a trip to Sephora and there’s been no turning back for me. This organic suncare line takes a farm to face approach to sunscreen. It uses fresh, locally-sources ingredients and its formulas are over 70% certified organic. Seriously, have you ever read the ingredient list on a typical sunscreen brand? Mostly unpronounceable. Coola is free of paraben, phthalates, paba and petroleum, and the products work. I’m a big fan of their SPF 30 face lotion which is also a cucumber moisturizer and their SPF 30 Daydream mineral primer.
Tampons: Jolie Organic & Natracare
Jolie Organic are 100% certified organic cotton and are super comfortable. They have no chlorine or fragrance, synthetics or dies and are delivered right to your door. I recently used Lola and loved that they are conveniently delivered to me (You set the frequency of shipments) and I also loved that they are transparent about what you’re putting into you. Most mega tampon companies don’t disclose their ingredient lists, but Jolie Organic does. The product comes in pretty boxes and an added bonus: for every box bought, Jolie donates products to women across the world who can’t afford hygienic products.
Natracare also is a range of 100% organic cotton and chrlonine-free and dye-free.The tampons are made without plastic or rayon. CVS and Amazon carry the brand (which also includes baby care and pads and liners).
Skincare: Tata Harper
We love Tata Harper’s skincare line for being 100% natural, organic and non-toxic. My favorite products are their moisturizers and anti-aging range, such as their eye contour mask.
