Being in New York City during the Coronavirus, I have been on lockdown for longer than most. While I’m confined to my home, I have wanted to keep up with my workouts to the extent that I can because in addition to nourishing my body, I find it’s great for my mental health as well. Here’s what I’ve been relying on to get my workouts in and sweat while I social distance.
Peloton App: I’ve written extensively about how much I love Peloton’s app and bike (You can read my full write up about that here). And, even though our Peloton bike is back at our apartment in Manhattan and we can’t use it while we ride out quarantine at my parents’ home, my husband and I still rely on their app for full body workouts and, importantly, guided meditations. For $20 a month (less than one boutique fitness class) I now have unlimited access to a whole suite of great workouts on demand, ranging from their spin classes, running class, boot camp and the meditations. My parents have a treadmill, so this app allows me to do running classes and treadmill + weight classes just as good as Barry’s Bootcamp. I canceled my Headspace app once I got this app since their guided meditations are wonderful — I’ve been doing them twice a day because of all of the coronavirus stress and news. I very highly recommend Peloton. Want $100 off your Peloton bike or treadmill order? Use our referral code: 5QTNT5
Tone It Up: I have been a yearslong fan of Karena and Katrina, who run online fitness lifestyle site, Toneitup.com. They have been my go-to girls for years when I am on the road and in hotel rooms trying to sneak a workout in because of their free and wonderfully versatile fitness videos. I particularly love their thigh and glute workouts, and know this arm workout by heart from five years of doing it as well as this killer kettlebell workout. Their workouts get you sweating and require minimal equipment, which is perfect for right now.
Physique 57: I am currently doing a trial of my favorite barre studio’s barre classes, and while I find that the class itself is good, I am really disappointed in the streaming quality and production value. It’s $24.99 a month and requires very little equipment while providing a great thigh, glutei and core workout.
Kayla Itsines: I work out almost every day, and these 28-minute workouts from the Kayla Itsines app KICKED MY ASS. The program, called BBG, require very little equipment and are a true full-body workout. You’ll do tons of lunges, squats and chair steps and your muscles will feel like jelly the next day, but in a good way. I’ve done these workouts all over the world in really tight spaces, so it’s doable in a small apartment.
