New York Fashion Week Runway Recap: Victoria Beckham

By Francesca Claybrook

I have a confession to make:  I really like Victoria Beckham, fashion designer.  I think she’s talented, she has a very specific sense of what she likes, and her designs reflect that.  Plus, she shows her collections in small private spaces, and narrates each look as it comes out herself.  How different from the image of aloof, unsmiling Posh that we sometimes have.  The models in the show all wore tight black caps that made them look bald, which really put the focus on the clothes themselves rather than the styling.  The clothes were much more colorful than what La Beckham has shown previously, but the pieces still have her distinct tailored style.  Let’s take a look:

I seriously want this dress.  I’d take the boots as well, but anyone willing to give me this dress will automatically jump to Favorite Person status.  Plus, I hear it’s what VB wore to the presentation with The Bump hidden underneath.

The blue is gorgeous, and the top of the dress is interesting but doesn’t take away from the simplicity of the rest of it because the interest really comes from the fabric, rather than complicated construction.

This dress is so VB.  The fit is exquisite, and you can tell she’s getting more confident as a designer, because just look at those color choices and the way they combine.  I don’t even like yellow and I like it.

Outerwear is another new foray for Mrs. B, but it seems like she’ll be successful at it.  If you want to take a look at the whole collection, you can do that here.
