New York Fashion Week Runway Recap: Ruffian

Black and white was the theme at Ruffian’s show on Friday. Pieces gave off a femme tuxedo look. Think bow ties, fitted blazers, satin collars, and vests. But what got me were the feminine touches. Some tuxedo shirts displayed black lace cuffs at the sleeve.

Lace was a big trend at the show, with lace accents around collars and wrists and lace slip dresses peaking from under blazers.

Some of the pieces were paired with cigarette pants, giving them a rocker chic feel that pulled the looks together.

My one criticism were some of the plaid looks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-plaid, but the execution was just so-so. Ruffian is usually edgy and glam, but these pieces failed to excite and came off as homely.

My favorite look of the show is this nude and silver dress above. I love the ruffles down the sides and the fit. It’s space-age meets Victorian.
