New York Fashion Week Runway Recap: Jason Wu

By Francesca Claybrook

If you haven’t gotten the memo yet, sheer is in big time. Jason Wu showed many pieces with sheer fabrics and lots of dainty blouses and dresses with collars and bows. The collection felt very feminine, even though some of the looks (like the one below) were obviously inspired by menswear.

The clean black and white color palate was used throughout the show, with blush tones and just a few red and blue garments (and one yellow skirt)providing the color.

I loved this intricate blouse and long skirt.  It’s elegant and chic without being too over the top – a look that we could all incorporate into our wardrobes comfortably.  Many of the looks, like this one, had a very classic, timeless feel to them.

I fell in love with this dress…

and the finale dress.  The red was such a great pop of color against the rest of the collection, which was mostly neutral. Admittedly I might be biased, because that’s how I like my bright colors (in small pops –I am not the target audience for the return of the neons).  On the other hand I’ve never understood the fabric mask that some designers place over the models’ faces, so for me the styling could have been better.  Overall though I thought the collection was gorgeous, and while I wouldn’t wear every single piece (feathers are not so much my thing) I’m in love with most of them.  See all of it here.
