Milan Fashion Week Runway Recap: Giorgio Armani

By Francesca Claybrook

I loved this collection from Giorgio Armani.  The cuts, the colors, the fabrics – everything was gorgeous.  Sure there were a few pieces here and there that I wasn’t as thrilled about, but on the whole this collection was stunning.  There was a mix of fabrics; velvet, silk, chiffon, lace and furs all made an appearance.  There was a lot of black as well, but interspersed with nudes and earthy hues and a few cool tones.

This was the closing look, and it’s a good example of the patterns Mr. Armani used for a few looks.  The fringe is starting to become a little familiar (remember Max Mara?), but because it’s made of the same fabric as the rest of the outfit it’s less Western and more textural, which is a good thing.

I really love this look, especially the jacket.  The asymmetrical buttons give it an extra boost.

Had the bottom of this coat not been cinched in I would have hated it, but that simple detail actually makes a world of difference, and so instead I loved it.  The cinching draws the fabric back to the model’s body and gives the bottom of the coat a real shape instead of being simply an excess of fabric that overwhelms her figure.

Such is the power of Mr. Armani:  all of a sudden I am convinced that I must own a fur skirt next winter…

…but I’d settle for this fur coat instead.
