The Fall 2011 collection from Gianfranco Ferre designers Roberto Rimondi and Tommaso Aquilano was beautiful – very angular, cut along minimal lines but with details that kept the collection from being minimalistic. Lapels featured sharp angles and were often left open, as in the look above. Horizontal lines also came into play quite frequently. The color palate was mostly black and white, but metallic shades and a deep purple also had a strong presence. Overall, I really loved it. Let’s take a look:
This look, which opened the show, is an extreme version of the angular open lapel look that featured in many of the looks.
I really liked this dress. Metallics spent a lot of time in the spotlight in this show, and this is one of the examples of horizontal lines worked into one of the pieces. The dress looks almost slashed in places, which gives it a much edgier feel than it would otherwise have.
Here are more lines (many of them horizontal) on a simple pencil skirt. Thanks to the pattern and the different textures the skirt seems much less simple than it actually is, and combined with the modern cut of the top the whole thing is a winning look. I would like to own it please (I’d also be happy with its cousin here).
Here’s yet another dress featuring the same horizontal lines, only this time in black, which makes the slashes stand out even more. I love this as an amped up take on a little black dress, because it’s really daring but at the same time has the silhouette of a classic piece.
I really encourage you to take a look at the entire collection, which you can do here. I had a tough time narrowing down which pieces to include in the recap, because I loved so many of them. Check it out!
