Benvenuto a Milano! It seems like as soon as one Fashion Week even thinks about ending, the next one is already starting. So welcome to Milan, usually my personal favorite of the Fashion Weeks. Alberta Ferretti showed a collection that, while not being as cohesive as it could be, was still very pleasing. While a lot of designers looked to the Seventies for inspiration, here Ferretti showed many Sixties-inspired pieces, such as coats with stand-up collars. Almost all the models walked down the runway in over-the-knee (well, thigh-high, really) velvet boots that I keep telling myself I should hate – but I don’t.
This was the closing dress, and definitely fits into the elegant, eveningwear mindset that half the collection had. Yes, this dress is black, but it’s anything but basic. I really liked it.
This was one of those Sixties-inspired looks, done in teal (like the look at the top of this post.) While it can be a little difficult to pull out trends on the first day of a Fashion Week, let’s just say there’s been a lot of teal.
There’s nothing particularly wrong with this look (in fact, the shiny leathery top is keeping in line with trends that have already emerged in New York and London), but it’s wrong in this collection. There’s really only one or two more looks that it relates to, so for me it should have been edited out (along with this leather coat).
This wavy design is present in a couple other, more colorful, designs as well, but I like the subtlety of the black on black design here.
Check out Alberta Ferretti’s full collection for yourself here, and stay tuned for more of Milan!
