The fabulous and newly pregnant Dutchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has started the 16 – day Australian tour with her husband, Prince Harry. Throughout this tour, the royals are being photographed and watched 24/7 by paparazzi, especially those who want to know what Markle is wearing at all her appearances.
We feel that Markle should be wearing clothes that are flattering to her newly pregnant body, as she is undergoing many personal changes in her life. And, don’t be fooled, what Meghan wears is a highly orchestrated event by the monarchy, stylists (like her best friend and stylist Jess Mulroney who is traveling with her) and tons of brands hoping to get the Meghan effect if she chooses to wear them on tour.
The effect of Meghan wearing a brand while on tour can be huge. Many of the styles she has worn are sold out. She’s also used the opportunity to wear Aussie brands, which shows her ability to diplomatically impress the Australians. Even though the tour has just started, we are checking daily who and what she is wearing. Here are Meghan Markle’s Best and Worst Outfits from the Australian Tour. (Also, you can read our best and worst looks Meghan has worn since becoming a royal here)
Meghan’s Best Looks While In Australia:
Markle is wearing Australian designer Outland Denim’s high-rise Harriet jeans ($199.90), as she is stepping out of their plane paired with a Maison Kitsune white button-down shirt, $215. Her blazer is by BFF Serena Williams’s line and is $145. These jeans are extremely flattering on her for this semi-casual look, and are currently sold out in many sizes. We rarely get to see the Duchess dressed casually, and we like that this look makes her appear more approachable.
Markle is wearing a neutral colored trench coat, with Club Monaco’s Miguellina dress ($375) and isn’t yet sold out! This look is professional and classy, keeping up with the fall trends right now while she was photographed in warm Melbourne. We also love the practical Rothy’s flats for the Duchess, who confirmed that she is pregnant.
Markle looking stunning in Australian designer Karen Gee’s Blessed dress ($1,800), as she makes a bold statement representing the royal family. She paired this sleek dress with Stuart Weitzman pumps. For a more affordable under $150 version, check out these Sam Edelman versions.
Markle steps out with her husband in this limited edition Dion Lee dress. The price of this dress is not even out yet, as the dress is not even available for presale, due to it being brand new. She pairs this dress with navy Manolo Blahnik shoes and a Gucci clutch ($2,490). We love when she wears navy blue, and feel that the bag makes the whole look come together. Here’s the Martin Grant trench coat she is wearing. For a more affordable version of her trench coat, check out this one at ASOS.
Markle and her husband met with a surfing group on Bondi Beach, so Markle decided to express her casual & flirty vibed attire and weat this summer-like dress. The dress is from Australian resort label Martin Grant, and is not even for sale yet, as it is a part of the spring/summer 2019 collection. Pairing this with espadrille wedges was the perfect move, as it is casual and comfortable. Drop waist is a bold move, but if there’s any time someone can get away with it, it is during pregnancy.
Our editor’s favorite look from the tour so far is this black, button-down Emilia Wickstead dress (similar versions here and here.). This is one of the best fits we have seen on Meghan, who is famously bad at dressing her body. The midi length and button down make it occasion appropriate.
Meghan’s Worst Looks:
Markle makes an appearance in a Brandon Maxwell pleated skirt shirtdress ($1,895), and pairs it with Tamara Mellon pumps ($395). We feel that the Dutchess of Sussex looks great, but that this was not one of her best looks on the tour. Wearing a flowy and pleated dress like this does not flatter her well, as this should be a time for her to embrace her body before entering later trimesters.
This polka-dotted dress we feel did not do the Dutchess of Sussex justice, with her past amazing outfits worn on this tour. This is the Waist Knot Midi Dress (AU$163) from a famous Australian designer, And Other Stories. She paired this with simple netural colored Sarah Flint sandals ($245), which we feel did not pair well. Yes, she was getting on an airplane and should be comfortable, however light-shaded wedges could’ve stepped up the look as a whole. We do give her points for wearing something affordable for once, though. That’s something that sister-in-law Kate Middleton has been great about, frequently wearing high street brands like J. Crew and Gap and pieces that cost under $100.
Markle wore a British designer while on the Australian tour. This dress is Roksanda ($1299), and we feel does not suit Markle’s body well. As she is in her first trimester, wearing extremely out-poofed dresses is not a prime look for the Dutchess. The blue color tones suit her fabulously, however the style of this London Fashion Week dress did not do her justice.
