I love the style over over-the-knee boots but truly they are not known, generally, to be worn by those above the lower grades of society. However, they are flashy and bold and make a statement all their own. And the beauty of them is that they add flair and can be either flat, low heeled or high-heeled, leather, suede, lace-up, zipper, embellished, the list goes on. Not a new trend—they began popping up in fall 2009 fashion shows—the trend is growing and booming in the 2010 winter. Why? Because they immediately add a fierce sexiness to any outfit.
How to wear them? The best way to wear these shoes indeed is by taking a page from designers such as Antonio Berardi, Haider Ackermann and Hermès who avoid the unwanted woman-of-the-night looks by dressing their models in a contrasting light with baggy clothes, long jackets, and avoiding tight, form-fitting ensembles contrasting them with more laid back outfits and by making sure that they go just above the knee—avoiding those that reach near the pelvis. The goal is to make the boots stunning accents and not the ultimate focus. They should compliment like a fine wine and not take all the attention like over seasoned food.
Who makes them? A wide range of designers from the aforementioned to Marc Jacobs, Dolce Vita, Guess, DKNY, and so on. A wide range of designers, designs and prices (from Michael Antonio McKay’s $40 grey, scrunch look to Hugo Boss’ $945 suede high-heeled version) on this fashion frenzy can be found here.
Celebs seen spotting this bold look include Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, Rihanna, Hayden Panettiere and Hillary Duff.
