Home Project: Sprucing Up Your Garden For Summer

By Lily Raine

Now more than ever, we appreciate the little things and are keen for home improvement projects as we spend more time at home. One of the hobbies I’ve taken up the last few months is gardening. It provides beautification to your home and also is a hobby that provides a wonderful gratification as you see the fruits of your efforts blossom. This summer, we are looking forward to relaxing in our home garden to get away from the stresses of the world, but our gardens have gone through the winter without use leaving them lifeless. We have curated a list of sure things that will spruce up your garden for the summer.

New Fencing

New fencing is a simple purchase that will instantly give your backyard garden a much-needed makeover. Fencing can be as beautiful as it is practical. Personally, I love wrought iron fencing for around gardens, but there are many types of fencing to consider for your own needs. You could choose between purely for decorative purposes or functional, like for keeping the neighbor’s dog out. Professionals can help you decide which type of fencing best suits your needs.

Plant New Flowers

New flowers and plants not only create a beautiful, cohesive atmosphere, but are good for the environment. There are a few things to consider when planting new flowers, such as the climate you live in, the soil, how often they need water and the time of year. A garden professional can recommend the best flowers for your garden. Flowers can be a sure way to add color and beauty to your backyard garden, and it’s a great way to ensure that you’ll always have fresh vases of flowers around your house to brighten up your indoor spaces as well.

New Patio

A new patio can be the perfect place to look out onto your improved garden on a warm evening & really savour it.

However, while making a patio yourself may be entirely feasible if you’re a regular woodworker with a good understanding of protecting wood from damp and rotting, you may alternatively want to look for professional help.

While the cost of laying a new patio can seem expensive, getting it done correctly with help from a professional can be a long term investment providing value and a wonderful addition to your garden. The last thing anyone wants is to save a few bucks and then find they’re handiwork rotting away within weeks.

Water Features

Water Features, such as a fountain, will turn your backyard garden into a dreamy wonderland. While my favorite water feature is a bubbling fountain, there are also other water features including manmade streams, waterfalls, and hot tubs to choose from.  A professional can help you decide which water feature is best for you! Water features are a great way to make your backyard look expensive, without breaking the bank. An added bonus, they create soothing sounds that can be meditative!

Fish pond

A water feature such as a fish pond complete with koi fish can be a wonderful focal point for any garden area.  These ponds range in price from affordable and simple to more elaborate.  It’s important to turn to a trusted professional to design and install your pond.
