Holiday Gift Guide 2010: Gift Ideas for Your Techie Friend

By Francesca Claybrook

The holidays are just around the corner, believe it or not, and we are here to help you out with all your gift-buying needs.  This time, we’re focusing on your technology-obsessed friend.  Let’s see what’s out there:

Laptop cases.  Everyone needs to keep their precious laptop safe while they’re on the go, so this makes a great gift for your friend whose computer is her life.  I love the striped case from Henri Bendel or the detailed one from Juicy Couture, but if your friend is more low-key Marc Jacobs makes a simpler black case.

–          This little bag by Orla Kiely is like a combination laptop case and computer bag – perfect for the girl-on-the-go who doesn’t want to be bogged down with a giant heavy bag.  It looks like a laptop case, but comes with handles so it’s much easier to carry. Genius!  Get it from Piperlime.com.

–          Kindles (and Barnes and Noble’s version, the Nook) are everywhere these days, but it can be a pain worrying if they’re getting cracked or scratched in your bag.  The perfect solution is this gorgeous e-reader case from Henri Bendel.  Chic, and practical too!

–          If you love the e-reader case but your friend invested in an iPad instead, Henri Bendel carries the same design in an iPad case– perfect for the Apple addict.

–          Who doesn’t need an iPod lamp?  I know it’s probably never crossed your mind, but after seeing these lamps I have to admit, it’s a pretty good idea.  It gives off light, plays music, charges your iPod, and makes an adorable home accessory!  Available atNeiman Marcus.

–          Finally, I’ll let you in on one of my favorite tricks.  I got so sick of all the various chargers laying around my house and clogging up my purse on trips (phones, Blackberries, iPods – the list is endless) that I decided to get a cute makeup bag and stick all the chargers in one place.  A bag like this one from Burberry would make a perfect gift for the techie who has everything else (available at Bloomingdale’s.)
