Gossip Girl Fashion Recap: “The Princesses and The Frog”

By Francesca Claybrook

Gossip Girl is really keeping up with the times – with an actual royal wedding last Friday, the idea of an imminent royal Gossip Girl wedding is nearly too much to handle.  But, our would-be princess, Blair, started the episode off on a sour note for me.  I’m not loving her new hairstyle.  Maybe it’s just so different after years of sleek, straight hair (which would have been very Kate Middleton-esque, now that I think about it), but I think I prefer the old Blair.  I also prefer Chuck Bass sans 5 o’clock shadow, although it was actually kind of shocking to see the normally impeccable Chuck with facial scruff.  He has really fallen apart without his princess, hasn’t he?Pippa Middleton seemed to steal the show at Kate and William’s wedding, a role Serena would no doubt fill as maid of honor to Blair and Louis.  However, to do so she’s got to get a better-fitting (and better colored) blouse.  Something about the shoulders on this blouse is just awkward, and the color isn’t the best on her either.

Speaking of awkward shoulders, I would have loved the dress Blair wore to the princess party were it not for the awkward tulle growths sprouting from the top of her dress.  The sparkles are very pretty, and the fit is otherwise very nice, but the shoulders stopped the dress from being perfect.  Clearly a minion should be paying for the failure to remove said growths asap.

Serena looked gorgeous at the party, if a little boobalicious, but that’s just about par for our girl.  Really, who doesn’t want to meet the royal family of Monaco with their goods on display?  This is much more in line with her possible new position as maid of honor/best friend/scene stealer to Blair’s princess-to-be.  What’s the verdict?  Will she go through with it, or will Chuck win her back?  I can’t decide what I want to happen, how about you?

  1. What a great episode, especially the end! I do really like how the Blair/Louis storyline is developing, and have had enough of Chuck (like everyone else).

Also thought it was so great that they used “Ladder Song” by Bright Eyes in the end montage (video is up at

) Gossip Girl + Bright Eyes = me in heaven.
