Gossip Girl Fashion Recap: “The Kids Stay In The Picture”

By Francesca Claybrook

Welcome back!  It’s exciting to make our way back into the Gossip Girl world after so many weeks away, and what a world it is – a long-lost cousin, who Serena will eventually corrupt!  Lily reads Martha Stewart for tips on jail! A Chuck-Dan-Blair love triangle!  The inevitable end of show party has turned into the end of show photo shoot!  So to compensate for all the on-screen drama, it seems the cast was kind enough to ease me back into these fashion recaps by spending at least half this episode in their pajamas.  And while they were very cute pajamas, they’re not quite as exciting as what our favorite Upper East Siders wear when they leave the bedroom, so let’s get to it.

I can’t decide if I love or hate that Serena and her cousin Charlie dressed in nearly identical colors.  Are the costume designers trying to subconsciously emphasize their connection, or did they just forget to move on to another palate?  That being said, I like pretty much all of it except for Serena’s patchwork coat.  I’m not really among the patchwork fans out there.  Raina looked stunning in what appeared to be Herve Leger; the violet color was amazing against her skin.

I loved Blair’s outfit for the photo shoot but unfortunately I could only find a picture of the back, so it’s harder to appreciate the whole thing.  The flared skirt and the cropped jacket paired really well together, and they really emphasized how tiny Leighton Meester’s waist actually is.  And for a brief second I caught that the outfit was paired with bright red heels that matched her blouse – did you see that?  Love it!  Vanessa was kind of a nonentity in this episode, and so were her clothes.   Serena looked like a straight-up bombshell in her picture outfit, so major props to her for having gorgeous everything (but especially hair – holy cow).  Check it out:

I’m excited to see what the last four episodes of the season will bring!  For our purposes, let’s hope there are fewer pajamas and more clothes.  Until then, xoxo.
