Gossip Girl Fashion Recap: “Goodbye, Columbia”

By Francesca Claybrook
GOSSIP GIRL
In this episode, it seemed as though each character was willing to settle for a pass on their clothes, rather than gunning for an A. There was something holding back each one, keeping it from being a knockout. Let’s go through some of Blair and Serena’s outfits and see what could have been done to improve them. My problem with Serena’s opening outfit was the yellow top. The only thing that could have saved it was if she put on a new one. I like the colors and patterns on Blair’s bright printed dress (and especially the way her minions were color-coordinated!) but I felt like there was just a little too much fabric on the hips. On a different note, I like how Blair’s made her key a part of her everyday wardrobe. Will it replace the headband as her symbol of power? Only time will tell! Blair’s neon pink blazer would have worked for me if it was a different color, and Serena’s cobalt blue top I really liked, but my notes on the rest of the outfit read something along these lines: S’s shorts are really short…hold on, could that possibly be a skort?!? I was never able to determine whether they were or not, but if your skirt can in any imaginable situation be taken for a skort, something is wrong. I started to like Serena’s party dress until I realized there was some kind of weird short train thing going on in the back, which caused me to dislike it immediately. I really liked Blair’s party dress from the waist up, but from the waist down, I just want to know – why does she have to keep on wearing clothes with draped hip panels? Can’t we leave hips alone? We do not want to make them BIGGER; we want them to GO AWAY!
