Gossip Girl Fashion Recap: “The Unblairable Lightness of Being”

I thought most of the characters did pretty well for themselves this episode – Serena had only one hideous dress (a blue-gray one that managed to gape in the front and make her look like her figure had completely disappeared), Blair continued her string of successful outfits, this time in red, with a red and black sequined top and then a red dress (and finally a gold dress that would have been a knockout except for an unfortunate front bow), and Nate continued to raid Rufus’s closet, this time emerging with a plaid shirt. But any discussion of fashion on an episode with a wedding involved really focuses on only one thing: the wedding dress. Granted, the costume designers were given the challenge of having to outfit not only Dorota, but her baby bump as well (and this appears to be the latter stages of her pregnancy, because that thing was not small). I think, overall, they would have done better to leave off the lace overlay and stick with something simpler, like the slip underneath. The woman is clearly pregnant, so there’s really no camouflaging the bump. While it’s great (although kind of strange) to see Dorota in something other than her maid’s uniform, I think they could have done much better than this.
