Get the Look: Burlesque

By Francesca Claybrook

Burlesque can be a tough inspiration to pull off in your everyday (read: not Halloween) life while still looking classy, but rest assured ladies – it is possible. This look is sure to be big, especially with the movie Burlesque coming to theaters soon, so take notes now! Underlying the burlesque look is a vintage feel, so keep that in mind when you’re putting your outfit together. Corset details are a very good way to incorporate burlesque into your everyday wardrobe, without having to wear a full-fledged corset. You could try the look in a top like this one, but beware – it’s sheer! Pair it with a delicate cardigan or a blazer to keep yourself warm (and covered!) If the full-on corset look is too much for you, you can achieve a similar look with this corset belt. It gives you a hint of burlesque and would look amazing paired with a fitted pencil skirt. Lace-up boots and shoes are also a big trend this season, as is lace itself, and all of these can be worked into a burlesque-inspired look. Tracy Reese makes an adorable lace-up bootie that would be perfect with a skirt or skinny black pants, while Pour La Victoire’s “Myleene” pump is a perfect example of the lace trend done right. Try fishnet stockings as well, and make sure you top everything off with a strong lip. Red would be traditional, but I still love the way rich dark plums look as well, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Mix and match these inspirations and come up with a burlesque-inspired look of your own!
