Diane Von Furstenberg’s Spring 2011 RTW collection focused mostly flowing day dresses and separates, with only a few evening looks. Tons of prints were featured (this is DVF, after all!), and this time they were bold and graphic. There were a lot of neutrals, especially black and white, both paired together and separately. The colors used in the collection were very reminiscent of Miami – pale yellow, aqua, purple, melon.
Accessories included a lot of round sunglasses (a modern, chunkier twist on John Lennon’s iconic round shades), a few large bags and, making a few cameo appearances, the dreaded fanny pack. Overall I have to say that I wasn’t that thrilled with the collection. From Diane Von Furstenberg I usually expect something classic and chic – this was the woman who invented the wrap dress, for goodness’ sake! And this time, I just couldn’t make myself fall in love with these pieces. And did I mention that there were fanny packs?
The DVF front was row star-studded – no surprise there – and included Sarah Jessica Parker, Bravo’s Andy Cohen, and Anderson Cooper all sitting together. Molly Sims, Rachel Bilson, Nicky Hilton and Nina Garcia were also in attendance, as were Vogue editors Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld (editor-in-chief of French Vogue).
