Fashion Week Review: Ruffian

Ruffian’s bold, brassy look is something straight from the night sky. Designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais return to their dark roots of 2007 with their collection obviously inspired by astrology and the various natural scenes of a night sky. Their use of dark blues, sleek black, dusky gray sparkling accents in silver, copper, bronze, gold, shimmering purples bring their fall 2010 collection from outer space back to earth in a fancy and feminine way. Their attention to detail extends the futuristic look from the clothes to the high buns a top most of the models exquisite heads, nails that echo the moons sparkle and glow among the night sky, and make-up that takes hints from the cult film classic Fifth Element, with pink lips and simply light eyes. And isn’t that appropriate considering this duos NYC cult following? With such attendees as Annabel Vartanian, photographer Douglas Friedman, Peter Davis, Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing and Lorenzo Martone, it is no question that Ruffian’s influence in fashion will only grow and develop.

The most notable of which are a galaxy-type blouse paired with a black high waist skirt, a constellation inspired blouse with a sleek, leather skirt, and a sleek linear black dress with a half moon (both in silver and gold) and a back like that of the galaxy-type blouse.

Modern fashion’s walk into the cosmos works well in this collection. There are everyday pieces, most notably the jackets that are simple and stylish, and shirts and dresses for the woman who wants to sparkle like a comet among club lights.
