Fashion Week Recap: Cynthia Rowley

Cynthia Rowley describes her fall 2010 collection as a “chic monster-girl collection”. But these monsters are not the ones of nightmares but more the fun, free, odd but attractive, “Where the Wild Things Are” type. Ranging from black to blue, fun purple and even a pop of orange the collection is eclectic to say the least. Abandoning her usual light and airy, carefree and upbeat colors, Cynthia Rowley maintains her free spirit with puffed up jackets to dresses with feathers, and shirts with free flowing ruffles. It’s no
wonder there’s already a waiting list for many of this designers fun and feminine pieces.

However, the collection overall is a bit inconsistent. There are pieces that nail it and others that seem a bit overdone or drab. The ruffles and fringes seem to be placed just to give a consistent theme to the collection on some pieces, along with a belt that looks like a safety harness.

The stand out in the collection is a black, white and gray dress with abstract rectangular patterning paired with black tights and a medium-long feather jacket. The piece is simple, elegant and well put together. The safety harness belt works with this ensemble, leading the eye to the waist and giving more shape to the curves. And, honestly, what woman doesn’t want that?
