Cover Girl: Leighton Meester for Nylon Magazine

By Chevaun Jackson

Leighton Meester recently graced the cover of NYLON Magazine. The cover is a nice edgy look: three-quarter sleeved gold Jacket by Marc Jacobs paired with a plaid top by Versus by Versace, bra by Deborah Marquit, black leather skirt by Diesel, and accessories by 3.1 Phillip Lim, Euforia, Assad Mousner, Karen Walker, Bvlgari and Noir Jewelry. However the bra is too much as it’s unneeded—not sure if its supposed to be chic, sexy, or edgy but it fails.  The accessories are what kill one of the potential many of the outfits could have. I like the high socks trend and understand the return to the 60s a lot of designers and stylists are going for. However, the blend that is done on Leighton, especially with the flower band by Marc Jacobs, is too much for the eye. There’s no cohesive pattern that even says how they relate. Style doesn’t have to be matchy-matchy but there should be an understanding of a cohesive thought even with eclectic fashion. The best look on her is a black gypsy sort of off the shoulder, midriff baring black top by Marc Jacobs paired with a blue and black stripped Prada skirt accented by an Aurelie Bidermann necklace, Stella McCartney black belt with a flower brooch by Dori Csengeri, and a porcupine ring by Noir Jewelry.
