We were recently able to spend a week on the white sand beaches of Turks & Caicos, swimming in the turquoise waters, sipping apertifs in the sun and arguably most importantly – eating the amazing cuisine. The Caribbean island has an eclectic cuisine that revolves around really fresh seafood, and local delicacies like conch. Here are our picks for the most delectable eats.
Coco Bistro
For fine dining in a unique atmosphere under the stars and palm trees, Coco Bistro is it. Pro tip: Make a reservation well in advance, as this is a hard table to snag. Set in Grace Bay, the menu is chock full of fresh fist like salmon with caper beurre noisette and blackened mahi in a red thai curry sauce. The conch ravioli is also a popular dish. I opted for the grilled yellowfin tuna as my main and the grilled shrimp satay as a starter and the spicy lobster tacos.
Infiniti
Nestled in the resort of the Grace Bay Hotel is Infiniti, which was one of my most memorable dinners in Turks & Caicos. Named Infiniti for its long infiniti bar, which as first glance seems to extend all the way into the crystal clear waters, the restaurant is beautiful. We dined outside with the sound of nearby waves crashing near us. Be sure to arrive early so that you can take in the sunset as you sip pre-dinner drinks. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. Our favorite dishes: The simply grilled fish and chicken satay to start.
Kitchen 218
Set at the Beach House resort, Kitchen 218 has both a great dinner and brunch (So good, we went back twice). For dinner, start with the chef’s famous pumpkin soup. It came in a generous portion and I still wanted more. I followed it up with a coconut herb mahi mahi, (and too much rose)
Stelle Restaurant
At the swanky Gansevoort Turks & Caicos is Stelle Restaurant. We went here for both lunch and pre dinner drinks. The ambience was the best on the island with a cool pool draped in white linens. The mojitos were strong and the salads we had for lunch were super fresh. No reservation needed.
Fish Fry
Make sure to keep your Thursday night open for the local fish fry, where area chefs set up stands with grilled fish and finger foods. Not only is the food delicious, but it’s super inexpensive and there is plenty of rum punch to go around and a local band.
