Best of 2010: New Stores and Shopping Opportunities

By Francesca Claybrook

As the year comes to a close, it’s only right to reflect on this year’s biggest fashion stories. We’re starting off with the best new stores and shopping opportunities of 2010 but will be recapping all next week on the best-dressed celebs, red carpet looks, fashion news so check back!

The Lanvin and H&M collaboration – this collaboration created an enormous amount of buzz, even more than usual when a high-end designer agrees to work with a budget line.  Leaked pictures and commercials created even more interest in the collaboration, which by and large sold out in just a few hours.

J.Crew bridal boutique opens in NYC – J.Crew’s bridal line, long a favorite of classically preppy girls everywhere, finally found a home this year, as J.Crew launched its first bridal-only boutique in Manhattan.

Google launches Boutiques.com – thanks to our friends at Google, we can now not only see what pieces our favorite celebrities like, but we can purchase them as well.  You can also browse boutiques by designer, take a “stylizer” quiz to see what they recommend for you and create your own online boutique.

The Kardashians open Dash NYC – so this one makes the list not so much because of the store itself, but due to the craziness surrounding its proprietors – sisters Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe Kardashian.  The store was mobbed on opening night and the street outside turned into a frenzy of fans trying to get at their idols – so frenzied, in fact, that Kanye West managed to get lost in it.

More lines become available online – Madewell launches its own online boutique, while Club Monaco is now being sold on Shopbop.com.  Ok, so this one is kind of personal, because I love Club Monaco (which is unfortunate for my wallet, because I can now order Club Monaco’s stylish clothes while sitting at home in my pajamas.)  But given the limited number of stores previously, now these collections are available to a much wider range of people.  And now Madewell’s classically cool clothes are just a click away.  All of this is dangerous!
