Wine is a huge passion of mine and something I look forward to sharing with friends or opening over dinner, so I like to keep my apartment well stocked. But, anyone who has gone down this road knows that the choices could be overwhelming from bulk wine clubs to individual vineyards that have their own clubs.
A few years ago, I tried the wine clubs that send you twelve bottles every few months with a variety of blends and vineyards and while the ones we tried were reasonably priced, I found the selection to be very hit or miss and sometimes downright disappointing. Cue our new approach: Joining the wine clubs of vineyards we know and love, getting to taste the very best of what they put out.
That brings me to Napa vineyard V Sattui’s Wine-of-the-Month Club which we were recently lucky enough to try out. (And check back because we’ll be sharing some of our other favorite wine clubs from other vineyards later in the month).
V Sattui, located in St. Helena, makes more than 60 wines from 20 varieties of grapes. The vineyard turns out everything from a delicious Cabernet to Roses and dessert wine, so there really is something for everyone. But, their wines are only available at their winery or through their website, so signing up for Wine of the Month gives you access to their blends.
We tried out the Red Wines Only Club and signed up for two bottles, although the club is super flexible ranging from 2, 4 or 6 bottles meaning you can mix and match with their other offerings, like their dry wines club or dolce club (dessert wines). The reds club ranges from $70 to $120 for two bottles including shipping.
We got to test out their 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Cuvee Rouge and I was in love with the Cab, which was fruity and full bodied. It was perfect for a date night paired with steak and Netflix.
I loved the notes of strawberry and fruit in the Cuvee Rouge, which is a sparkling wine. I served that at a girl’s brunch this weekend and my girlfriends adored it.
