New York Runway Recap: Prabal Gurung

By Francesca Claybrook

Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2011 collection featured a lot of black, white, gray, and red.  This color palate is a dramatic one because when contrasted with the stark black and white the red really does pop – just check out the dress above for proof.

These three colors were accented by some pink, like in this dress above, and one purple fur coat.  While I’m iffy about the red-and-pink combination, in this case I think it works.

Black, white, chiffon, and belted with a skinny belt:  stick with this and you’re definitely on trend for fall 2011.

I really like the lace overlay on the front and sleeves.  Because the rest of the look is so fitted, the large bell sleeves don’t bother me at all.

Take a look at this finale dress.  It’s gorgeous, no?  I love the way the color fades, and the intricate work creates a lot of interest.

Celebrities spotted in the front row included Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her daughter Bee, Nina Garcia and Joanna Coles from Marie Claire, Bravo’s Andy Cohen, and fellow designer Carolina Herrera.  If you want to see the full collection, you can do that here.
