Nail Polish Must-Haves

By Lauren Ashley

One of the most therapeutic things for me is painting my nails, and being able to wipe off the polish on my hands and choose a new color depending on my mood or where I’m going.  There used to be a time when I stuck to french manicures and colors that I thought were appropriate (light pinks and nudes), but then I moved to New York City and everywhere I looked I saw bright colored nails with the funkiest designs. They belong to the women holding the rails on the subway, handing over my change at Starbucks, and helping me find my size blouse at H&M.  I became addicted to bright colors, certain patterns and, yes, awesome designs. You can not only get the polishes at your basic drug or beauty store but you can watch a bunch of youtube videos with step by step instructions helping you. And hey if you’re not that artistic you can check out these awesome Nail Lacquer strips by Sally Hansen. Not only do you get to put them on with no dry time at all but they last up to two weeks – way longer than  regular manicure.  In addition, they come with enough strips to give you a second manicure, making it worth your money!

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Strips , $9.99 at Duane Reade

While I love essie and OPI nail polishes the cost can add up after a while. Sinful Colors (found at any drugstore) not only have colors that are similar if not dead on but are also a fraction of the cost, ranging from $1.99-3.99

Here is essie’s spring collection so you can see what colors are in and if you can find them for a lower cost.

Check out OPI’s site and have fun trying different colors on a virtual hand. We love the Pirates collection
