Oscar De La Renta Enters Shoe Biz

By Chevaun Jackson

For his Spring 2011 collection Oscar de la Renta didn’t only grace the bodies of lovely models but their feet as well. That’s right; Oscar de la Renta is once again expanding his market on the soles of women everywhere. It would seem a fitting transition to return to since this is not his first tryst below the ankle—with the introduction of his accessories in 2001 Oscar de la Renta has branched out into jewels, shoes, bags and perfumes over the years. However, it would be safe to say that he has not done shoes at quite this magnitude before.

As with everything de la Renta, once again his style is about making women feel beautiful and look good. The shoes include flats, low heels, high heels and wedges, most being open-toed. They are simple, chic and feminine, and maintain de la Renta’s roots with their variety in color and style. Not one for avante-garde or extreme couture (you know, the things that look good on the stage of a runway and not on the actual street), Oscar de la Renta has always been about beauty and accessibility with his collections.
