Travel Guide: Riffelalp Resort’s Spa

As you know from a prior post, we recently came back from an incredible stay at the Riffelalp resort in Zermatt, Switzerland. We detailed all of the amazing offerings at the hotel and described its charms, but we wanted to dedicate a separate post to its spa, because it is truly world class.

The spa, which is only open to hotel guests, features Europe’s highest outdoor pool that is situated directly facing Matterhorn mountain. We spent a ton of time in the heated outdoor pool inhaling the Alpine air and taking in views of the Matterhorn and getting some great GoPro footage.

The spa is luxury at its finest and it has just so many options for guests. We also alternated in and out of the amazing treatment rooms, such as the steam room, sauna, organic sauna, whirlpool and grotto. This was such a great way to decompress after a full day of skiing and also some long flights from New York to Switzerland.

One of our favorite treatments was in the bottom floor of the spa’s grotto, where there is a whirlpool for two with a steel bed to lay on as the water circles you. This was so incredibly relaxing and I especially appreciated the way the grotto was presented. Next to the whirlpool there is a cold saline bath with waterfalls.

The next floor has a ton of different treatment rooms as well as another whirlpool, a cold shower and relaxation room with refreshments.

On the way to the outdoor pool, there is an enormous indoor pool that is beautiful as well. Our only regret of the trip was not spending more time in the spa!
