The Best Fashion In “Crazy Rich Asians”

By Joey Cahue

Of all the hot new movies out this summer, Crazy Rich Asians seems to be the talk of the town. The movie gives viewers a sneak peek into the luxurious world of those who are at the top 1% of earners in Asia, which has had a boom of wealth in the last few decades. The glamour and appeal never die down as I find the concept to be extremely fascinating and has captured my attention more than other movies have this summer. (PS: If you are looking for a good book to read, we loved Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, and thought the movie was just as good!)

Getting to the most important point, the fashion.  Crazy Rich Asians takes their style to a new level. In worlds like theirs, even our most beloved stores like Revolve and Shopbop are probably laughed upon. Take a look at some of the fanciest couture in the movie.

This classic Christian Dior pink dress is such a classic.

One of my favorite looks is Astrid Leong in this Christian Dior gown paired with oversized shades. I think the look is sophisticated and sassy, the light pink shade brings it down to earth. The cost was not available anywhere, but one could assume the price of this fit is off the charts.

This Marchesa gown was one of the best style moments in all of Crazy Rich Asians

The thing I love about this Marchesa gown is that the plunging V-neck is still incredibly modest with the floral applique on the shoulders and waist. The entire look creates such a Cinderella vibe, maybe even better! The price of this Marchesa gown is $1,095. Hmmm, who needs textbooks anyways, right?

Crazy Rich Asians FashionAlthough this is a more fun and outgoing piece, I’d love these Stella McCartney pajamas. I love pajamas because they could have any funky design you want on them since you’re mainly wearing them at home. However, I would possibly wear these out if I had around $300 to burn on pajamas.

Crazy Rich Asians FashionAll fun patterns and princess-like dresses aside, this suit screams businesswoman who’s ready to take over the world. This killer Armani suit will make anyone ooze with confidence. The exact price wasn’t available, but my guesstimate is around $600-$900 because most Armani suits ring up at this cost.

This Michael Cinco gown in Crazy Rich Asians is in one of the most important scenes

Yellow isn’t my favorite, but I would be more than happy to take this yellow Michael Cinco gown off Princess Intan’s hands. Cinco is a Filipino designer and revealed that the gown is “calado-inspired”. If you’re unsure of what calado means (I didn’t know either) it means open-work design. Calado is regularly used in fine embroideries. The price wasn’t listed, but it’s most likely priceless.

Now, the ladies of “Crazy Rich Asians” don’t just dazzle on the big screen. They seriously worked the carpet in all sorts of couture this awards season.

Constance Wu, who plays Rachel in Crazy Rich Asians, wore this stunner of a nude dress for the Golden Globe awards. This Vera Wang dress was one of the best of the night.

Constance Wu embraces the fashion of Crazy Rich Asians in her appearance.

We were also huge fans of her slinky after-party look. It is another Vera Wang dress.

Update: We read the entire “Crazy Rich Asians” trilogy in 2018. See our full guide to 2018’s best books here!
