Mismatched Prints Are One of Fashion Week’s Biggest Trends

By Yasmine Duran

The ultimate time of the year… Fashion week. While it is fun and exciting to guess which celeb will pull the most bold fashion choice, it is just as fun to see which designer creates the most unexpected collection and show to watch. Mismatched print has become such a trend both on and off the runway. It’s unexpected, different and if paired the right way, chic! Here are the top picks of mismatched print on the runway this season. (Don’t forget to read a post from earlier this week about neons and pastels taking over the runway at NYFW)

Carolina Herrera

The look is breathtaking. The yellow detailed blazer ties the white top and plaid shorts together, making it very chic and professional. The tan boots are what seal the deal for me and really jazz it up. This is definitely a look that could be worn out on the street as the colors all seem to work well together and not look completely costume-y.

Kate Spade

You can get the mismatched look by using a different pattern for your accessories, like pictured here.

The mismatch here is very subtle. There is similar color scheme going on between the outfit and the accesories, but the patterns are all very different. I also think this one is pretty wearable for a cute laid back chic weekend outfit. Head scarves are all over the runway this season- and this light blue print makes a great stand out piece among the other royal blue accessories.

Jeremy Scott

Jeremy Scott can always be counted on for some playful looks

Jeremy Scott, of course, is not afraid to stand out in the crowd. The shows are always fun and full of color and unique print. This year’s show is nostalgic with the Pokemon cartoon print on a lot of the pieces of clothing. The friendly graphic print dress is wearable for any occasion on its own, but the denim jacket on top gives off cool girl vibes and makes it look less infantile. The platform boots are a statement itself- but it wouldn’t be a Jeremy Scott show without fun footwear!

Proenza Schouler

Kaia Gerber walks the Proenza Schouler catwalk in some mismatched prints

All hail queen Kaia in this amazing Proenza Schouler ensemble. The oversized button down is absolutely everything and compliments the slicked back hair so well. This may not be an everyday look off the runway but the top itself represents the mismatched print very well and expresses the true meaning of taking a risk in fashion! (PS: you can read about Kaia’s new capsule collection with Karl Lagerfeld here)

Christian Siriano

There’s a lot going on in the Christian Siriano ensemble, but somehow it works

Who knew this trend could look so good? I was definitely skeptical!! Christian Siriano takes leopard print (which is already a huge statement this fall) and floral and combines the two together to create this modern lady look. I wouldn’t say this is office ready but definitely something to recreate for a nice night out or brunch!
