Met Gala Best Dressed 2018

By Joey Cahue

The first Monday of each May marks one of the fashion world’s biggest nights: the annual Met Gala, chaired by Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. We’ve written in the past that the theme this year is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” so attendees will have a lot to pull from.

The event is almost like a celebrity prom, but with dresses that are ten times more jaw dropping. Actresses, models, influencers, and just about every sought-after public figure in the limelight attends.

Read on for our take on the Met Gala best dressed, which will be updated throughout the night. There was a common theme of the night — head pieces that invoked Catholic references.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Rihanna at the Met Gala 2018

Rihanna, who is co-chiaring tonight’s event, has statement hat of the night. The singer is dressed in Margiela and is wearing a headpiece similar to that of a Pope.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Rosie Huntington-Whitely in Ralph Lauren.

Rosie Huntington-Whitley was an angel then for Victoria’s Secret, and still an angel now in our eyes after making an appearance in this golden Ralph Lauren dress. The dress is accessorized with a beautiful headpiece that seems to be the main trend tonight. The cape makes a statement and isn’t too long, but also isn’t too short.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Supermodel Bella Hadid

Supermodel Bella Hadid sported an all black gown with an austere top, channeling a Catholic widow in mourning.

SZA looks radiant in pink Atelier Versace at the Met Gala.

One of my favorite looks from the night was SZA in a baby pink Atelier Versace gown. I love how the singer paired it with a gold headband reminiscent of an angel’s halo.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Kylie Jenner and boyfriend Travis Scott just three months after their daughter was born on the Met Gala red carpet.

Kylie Jenner in Alexander Wang gown. Only months after welcoming baby Stormi with boyfriend Travis Scott, Kylie looks incredible! She made her reappearance into the limelight at the gala tonight in this form-fitting all black Alexander Wang gown. The side has a funky zipper and she completes the look with mini sunglasses drenched in jewels.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Kate Moss makes her Met Gala return.

Kate Moss in a Yves Saint Laurent Dress. The most iconic model of our time keeps it classy with a little black dress. This isn’t just any little black dress as it’s detailed with feathers poking out from the neckline. Kate hasn’t attended the Met Gala since 2009, and she made a strong comeback in this one.

Kate Bosworth in all cream

Actress Kate Bosworth really embraced the theme. Here she is wearing an all cream outfit and a veil similar to that of the Virgin Mary.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Blake Lively at the Met Gala 2018

Blake Lively in a custom designed dress by Versace and Christian Louboutin. “Serena van der Woodson was last seen at New York City’s most extravagant event of the year, was B invited?” Blake Lively never disappoints with her clothing choices. From streetwear to formalwear, she can pull off anything. This wine-red gown detailed with gold stitching and colorful gems took 600 hours to make by Loraine Schwartz and Christian Louboutin. She’s always in the “best dressed” category for the Met Gala every year, but this may be her most amazing dress yet.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Kate Upton wore Zac Posen

Kate Upton in a Zac Posen dress. The model and actress stunned us all in this silky emerald dress accessorized with a jeweled headpiece. She matched her heels with the headpiece, and the headpiece even connects to the dress. Kate’s eyes pop with this color!

Met Gala Best Dressed
Amal Clooney looked very Elizabethan.

Amal Clooney in a Richard Quinn design. Everything about Amal Clooney is goals. Brains, beauty, husband, and wardrobe. Tonight, she graces us in a Richard Quinn design that’s all about business in the front and party in the back. The front contains black satin pants with a metallic tube top designed with the same floral pattern on the lengthy train.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Ariana Grande channeling the Sistine Chapel at the Met Gala.

Ariana Grande in a Vera Wang dress. The young songstress is the belle of the ball in this Vera Wang design. Ariana goes back to her roots from earlier days with wearing a bow in her hair and she looks adorable. The dress is designed with tan tulle and has a sweetheart neckline. The cherub pattern makes this gown fit the angelic theme well!

Met Gala Best Dressed
Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin The Met Gala

Hailey Baldwin in a Tommy Hilfiger dress. I envy Hailey because she’s dating heartthrob Shawn Mendes, but tonight I envy her more for her Tommy Hilfiger dress. Hailey stuns us with the classic princess-like design, accompanied by a flower crown. Her pale pink hair makes a beautifully bold statement.

Met Gala Best Dressed
Lilly Collins went goth for the Met Gala.

Lily Collins in a Givenchy design. She has always had more of a dramatically obscure sense of style, and we love it! The black Givenchy design paired with an elaborate headpiece makes us turn heads (or for those of us at home, stop and pause our scrolling through Met Gala posts frenzy) and admire this doll.
