We recently closed on a three-bedroom apartment in Park Slope, Brooklyn and are super excited to move in once it’s safe to stop quarantining. The upside of quarantine, is that we’ve channeled our time into the renovations. You can see our full renovation here, including our before and after photos!
One of the biggest renovations we are taking is completely gutting the bathroom to make it more functional and also welcoming. Its current state is very dated and clunky. Our color palette is white and gold, with some black accents here and there. One of the focal points is our medicine cabinet. Because we are using gold fixtures throughout, we didn’t want a cabinet with a steel finish, so for months I’ve been on the lookout for a chic and functional medicine cabinet in the right shade of gold. I’m sharing my top picks with you, including the one we ultimately bought for our bathroom!
Vintage Rounded Medicine Cabinet, Pottery Barn: This medicine cabinet in a gold finish was our clear winner for our medicine cabinet for a number of reasons. I love that it is inset meaning that the cabinet itself will be flush with the wall as if it is being hung like a picture frame. It has clean lines and a great brass finish (but comes in other colors as well) while being very spacious on the inside. The price for the large version at $379 was by far the most budget-friendly option we looked at. We’re super excited for this to anchor our wall in the bathroom.
We accessorized with this vintage-looking gold and glass soap dispenser from Target ($12), Gold towel hooks ($16); and other gold accessories.
West Elm Seamless Medicine Cabinet: This gold framed medicine cabinet from West Elm looks a lot more expensive than it is. It has a mid-century modern vibe, glass shelves and is recessed into the wall. It’s $299.
Edge Large Brass Rounded Rectangle Medicine Cabinet Crate & Barrel: I really like the low profile of this Edge Rectangle Medicine Cabinet from Crate & Barrel ($429). It has a very slight frame to it while still getting the right aesthetic for a bathroom with gold hardware. It makes a statement without being too bold. (This Wayfair version is slightly less with a similar look)
Arched Metal Framed Medicine Cabinet, West Elm: Love the look, but looking for an arched shape? We have you covered with this West Elm medicine cabinet, $320. I love the arch and can picture two of these above his and hers sinks. (It also comes in a silver and matte black finish)
Nel Brass Medicine Cabinet, CB2: I love the rounded corners and sleek design of this medicine cabinet from CB2. It also comes in black. It’s $349.
Erma Mirrored Bath Cabinet: This Anthropologie gold medicine cabinet with a built-in shelf is $348 and has a modern look to it.
Restoration Hardware Bristol Medicine Cabinet: This was the original medicine cabinet I had my heart set on, but I really could not stomach the price. The large version, which we would need, is $725. Luckily, we feel like we got a lot of this aesthetic at less than half the price with our Pottery Barn purchase.
If you, like me, are decorating your space with gold touches and fixtures, we also recently bought this incredible vintage-inspired gold mirror from Anthropologie (it comes in a number of sizes and also comes in silver and antique black). We get SO many compliments on our Primrose mirror and it really ties together our bedroom.
